Future School for Ukraine
Our proposal addresses the need to rebuild schools destroyed by Russia’s war against
Ukraine and to create new schools in the regions that have received the most children
as a result of internal migration. At the same time Ukraine is undergoing an
education reform, so another goal is to rethink the current school model. The
adaptive school design we developed is focused on creating sustainable, safe,
and flexible learning spaces that embrace modern educational practices.
Our concept for the school of the future in Ukraine is like a city in miniature. It consists of learning clusters and a series of active lobby spaces between them.
By forming appropriately sized clusters, the spaces and functions are arranged into
smaller, easily comprehensible parts for the users. The lobbies create internal
connections and serve as meeting and study spaces.
Considering the urgent need and adaptive nature, we suggest to use modular steel structure
systems, while the facade materials can be adapted to the environment and
chosen based on the local materials and availability of materials for recycling
including building rubble. This construction concept allows for sustainable
buildings with adaptable interior spaces, easily expanded or even relocated if
necessary.
Through this competition, we aim to contribute to the rebuilding of Ukraine and its future.
