Metsätonttu

Metsätonttu

The construction of the Metsätontunkuja planning area is located in an existing built-up area. The current 2-story apartment buildings, which are in poor condition, will be replaced with a new residential area with improved comfortability and functionality. In the interaction of the project, it was hoped that the area would have recognizable and high-quality architecture suitable for its environment. The stepped-roof buildings presented in the plan along the Koivu-Mankkaa road create a restrained, but distinctive and personal urban space. The height of the buildings is on the same scale as the new buildings in Jousenpuisto on the other side of the street. The buildings in the direction of small housing descend from 3 floors to high masses, thus adapting to the scale of the houses in the neighborhood. Green park-like courtyards and public park axes remain between the new buildings, which are the area's east-west routes.
The buildings frame the area with a series of small-scale squares and courtyards of different types. The heart of the area is a park and stream in the west, which lie between the small house area and the newly built area. The park's versatile trees serve as a passageway for flying squirrels. The park continues south to the current parking area, where new trees will be planted to support flying squirrels.  A new, lightweight park route runs in the southern part of the park.
