Pedestrian bridge Nordenskiöldinkatu
An invited competition for a pedestrian bridge in the Central Park of Helsinki.
“Puilta” entry: The bridge is a continuation of the park creating link for a pedestrian, cyclist or a cross-country skier from the Central Railway Station of Helsinki all the way to Lappland. The bridge is designed to shelter from the traffic and to reflect the lights and colours of the surrounding nature.
“Viiva” entry: The site was not asking for a landmark so the design solution was an optimized wood-concrete structure with steinless steel railings to create the thinnest possible silhouette.
The project was designed in co-operation with Nuvo Engineering Ltd in 2009.
